PowerRunner and AVEVA Sign Reseller Agreement to Provide Real-Time Situational Awareness with Advanced Metering Infrastructure-Grid Analytics

BRENTWOOD, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PowerRunner, a leading energy IIoT analytics software provider, and AVEVA, a global leader a global leader in industrial software, driving digital transformation and sustainability, have combined technologies to deliver a proven and scalable operational data solution to provide utilities with real-time situational awareness through Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)-grid analytics.

The agreement allows AVEVA to resell PowerRunner software along with the PI System, providing customers with a proven and scalable operational data management system that operates on millions of sensors, including AMI data, in near real-time. Addressing assets from transmission to behind-the-meter, the PowerRunner on PI System solution provides the utility industry with the granular, temporal, and locational situational awareness needed to support the growing complexities facing utilities.

Distribution Automation Device Teaming: Exception Analysis with ComEd

Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd, an Exelon Company) provides electric service to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population. Distribution teaming schemes are becoming more advanced and the challenge is how do you monitor team status in near real-time, incorporate design changes, and keep a record of the what type of event is happening to the team. ComEd is using The PI System with their partner, PowerRunner, to monitor and automate team updates in an automated fashion. Using AMI Data to Provide situational Awarness

Kevin Walsh of OSIsoft and Dan Garvey of PowerRunner discuss how the PowerRunner on PI solution helps electric utilities extract operational value from AMI data to support network model validation, GPU enabled at-the-meter load and generation forecasting, and locational real-time distribution loss analysis.

PowerRunner on PI System - Reducing AMI Latency to Improved Near-real Time Situational Aware

The AMI rollouts over the past decade have replaced almost 50% the 170M scalar meters in the US with digital meters capable of recording multiple measurements and events in sub-hourly intervals. Yet, to date, there are no scalable AMI data solutions that have operationalized the data from these millions of IoT devices. As Ameren nears completion of their AMI deployment, the focus has turned towards how best to operationalize this valuable spatial and temporal data to provide operators with near-real time situational awareness. Working with PowerRunner and OSIsoft, Ameren is building the foundations of an operational data platform in which AMI data is pulled directly from AMI headends into the PI System, joined with SCADA data and presented to the enterprise through the PowerRunner Energy Platform. By reducing AMI data latency and operationalizing this critical data, utilities will be better prepared to manage the bi-directional power flow introduced by DER and ensure system fidelity.
